The TOTUS speaks…

And the verdict is:  More of the same.  Government meddling in the economy, programs, borrowing, spending, and general trillion-dollar thrashing around to no good purpose.  Even with the persecuted head of Gibson Guitar Company sitting in the audience, Mr. Obama’s speech contained just one short paragraph on regulations in which he said that he had ordered a “review” all government regulations.

Feel better now?  Our Dear Reader has got some people looking into it.

Mr. President, how about showing some action for a change?  How about, for starters, ordering your EPA thugs to get off of Gibson Guitar or be fired right nowYou can read a blurb here at Wiki about Gibson’s problems with the enforcers.  Suffice to say that at a minimum, Gibson has been deprived of its property without any process of law whatsoever.  Oh, and did I mention that Gibson is located in a Republican congressional district?

Meanwhile, the economy lost another 400,000 jobs last month.  The juggernaut of EPA sponsored industry killers keeps bearing down on the energy industry threatening the electric power business with billions of dollars of worthless changes.  Mr. Obama said he’d kill off the coal industry, and he is doing it.  And no businessman worthy of the name would dare risking his fortune on starting a significant enterprise until the threat of ObamaCare has been clarified.  Who knows what the costs would be?  Government, by its nature, is inherently anti-freedom.  But under Mr. Obama’s baneful influence, the apparatus of state power has become a mob of economic leg-breakers rewarding friends with trillions and punishing enemies with lethal regulations and vindictive enforcement.

Biggest zinger line of the speech that went dud: “What kind of country would this be if this Chamber had voted down Social Security or Medicare just because it violated some rigid idea about what government could or could not do?”

Well, Mr. President, I’d like to answer that.  Without Social Security and Medicare and myriads of other giveaway programs, America would be a country that is not going bankrupt.  It would be a country with the highest debt status (or no debt at all) and a rock solid currency.  It would be a country that is not ripping off its kids to pay for millions of Democrat-voting parasites sitting around collecting crazy money.  It would be a country that doesn’t tax the poor and the young to subsidize comfortable retirements for the old and wealthy.  It would be a country without a mandatory Ponzi scheme in which everyone still has to pay in 15 percent, but all the people of my generation and younger will never see any of that “investment” again.  It’d be a country without a government more crooked than Bernie Madoff.  Yeah, it’d be that kind of country.

Biggest personal interest item of the speech: Mr. Obama proposes to train 10,000 engineers per year.  I’ve got a better idea.  How about we stop importing foreign engineers?  That would drive up wages for American engineers, and then the prosperity of a  free and profitable profession would beckon way more than 10,000 young people per year to enter the field.  But again, Mr. Obama is so hobbled by his precommitment to a statist philosophy that he literally cannot think the thoughts of freedom.  The thought underlying every line of his speech was that if government doesn’t do it, then it can’t be done.  He is an intellectual amputee.

Ed. note: I’ve just learned from a loyal reader that the acronym TOTUS is not universally understood.  It stands for, “Teleprompter Of The United States,” which of course is the real brains of the operation inside the Obama White House.  And while I’m at it, the reference to “Our Dear Reader” is a take-off of the North Koreans’ name for their dictator, “Our Dear Leader.”  Both references are common among conservative writers so I claim no credit for either.  They are just handy ways of lampooning the unbearable pretense that Mr. Obama is a great orator, which he is not.  In my opinion, he’s really not even a very good reader of teleprompters.
