A different god

Our “leaders” in Congress have assembled another gigantic piece of legislation, this one exceeding 2000 pages and taking aim at financial institutions.  Chris Dodd, himself on the receiving end of corrupt financial dealings, is one of the authors of it.  He had this to say:

This is about as important as it gets, because it deals with every single aspect of our lives.

Yes, indeed, Sen. Dodd has written laws that affect every single aspect of our lives.  Is that not the very definition of religion? And is not such an expansion of federal power the very thing our wise Founders sought to prevent?

Government-as-deity never works out well in the end.  It’s a dangerous thing to marry a government to a religion.  It’s even more dangerous to allow the government to become religion.
