Just asking

Environmentalists here in Florida are going ape over the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and one of them is advocating an amendment to the Florida Constitution forbidding oil drilling in Florida coastal waters.

But I was just wondering whether environmentalism isn’t partly to blame for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.  Environmentalists have gotten oil drilling outlawed pretty much everywhere.  Does this have the effect of making extreme locations the only ones that are still possible?  The water at the DH site is about a mile deep, and the special GPS-guided rig used to position it over the bore rents for something like a million dollars a day.  Maybe BP and the other oil companies would have been out there anyhow, someday.  But I’m thinking they’re out there now because environmental extremism has placed everything else off limits.
