Like slapping a cactus

Pastors, you cannot deal with the issue of public schooling without offending lots of people.  No matter how gently you touch on it, no matter how lovingly you encourage your folks, no matter how humbly you speak your entreaty, folks are going to get mad.  If you suggest they remove their kids from government control and enroll them in a Christian school or take up the job of educating their own kids at home, they’re going to displeased. This requires two things the fallen human heart loathes: repentance and self-denial.  It’s not going to come easy.

They will say you’re a crank.  They will say you’re one of those guys who’s going to the mountains with a howitzer and some old sacks of dried beans.  They’ll say you’re squandering your credibility.  The teachers, administrators, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, PTA members, and school board candidates will be indignant and accuse you of making them the enemy.  You’re going to end up feeling like you’ve slapped a cactus.

Yet the issue won’t go away.  Politicians are lunging for power as never before in the history of the country.  It’s becoming clear that their objective is complete control over people down to the individual level.  The one place where they already exercise this degree of control is in school where government employees are in authority over your kids all day long.  And yet that’s the one place where, by providential quirks of American history, parents still have the power to tell the government no.  When your kids come home after school today, you need not ever send them back again.

Christians?  What are you waiting for on this?  Do what it takes.  Get your kids out.  You must answer for their souls, their beliefs, their spiritual lives, and their eternal destiny.  You’ve rendered unto Caesar what bears his image and is lawfully Ceasar’s, but the image of God is upon the souls of your children.  They belong to Him.  Don’t tithe them away until they’re lost to you and God’s kingdom.  You will have to sacrifice for this, possibly move to a smaller house, sell off an extra car, cut back on restaurants and movies.  Some readers may have to move to a different state where the laws are friendlier to Christian and home schools.

It’s time to take that step, brethren.  Whatever it takes.  Now.
