The Obama cult in the schools

Let me say at the outset that Mr. Obama is not responsible for the moonbats in the government schools teaching children to sing his praises.  He didn’t tell them to do that.  He is, however, responsible to tell them to cut it out.  If he’s doing that, I haven’t heard about it.

This serves to bring up one of the most delicate, tetchy, volatile, thermonuclear issues any preacher will ever deal with, and that’s a kid’s education.  People generally mean well when they send their kids to school.  They certainly don’t mean for them to fall under the tutelage of a crackpot like the one in New Jersey that’s made all the news.

But of course that’s just the point.  Once the kids are under somebody else’s control, that person now decides what they’ll learn and what they won’t.  Some of it will be good; some of it will be bad, but all of it will be what somebody else thinks should be done.  The longer I live, and the longer I study and reflect upon the Word of God, the more convinced I become that public education is a really bad idea.  It places children under an authority structure that does not have the wherewithal to provide what kids actually need.  They don’t just need information.  They need the right information, and they need parenting, love, discipline which is restrained by love and mercy.  They need to know Jesus Christ, to receive his salvation, and to be raised in an environment where his law is the norm and evil is obviously deviant.

What’s showing in the now-famous Obama praise chorus is a person with authority doing what she thinks is best.  In her opinion, teaching kids hymns of Obama-olatry was absolutely the right thing to do.  By what standard do you judge that she was wrong?  It seems to me that parents, by putting their kids under her authority, pretty much ceded their judgment to her.  They may exercise their power to pull the kids out, but they’re not acting on any sort of coherent principles when they do that.  They’re just quibbling over the results and failing to address the systematic causes of how such a thing could happen.

On principle, education is just flat-out not a legitimate function of government.  It’s a function of parenting, and that’s who should be doing it.  If parents wish to place their kids in a private school which they actually control, I’d have no problem with that.  But the whole issue with government schools is that parents don’t control them at all.  People who hired the creep in New Jersey do, and when all the clamor dies down, they’ll be doing something like this again.  They’ll do it more quietly next time so as to avoid the ruckus.  But make no mistake: they think this is what ought to be done.  And as long as people keep putting their children under the authority of folks like that, there’s no reason to believe anybody really disagrees all that much.  They’re just being fussy because the teacher picked an idol they don’t like.  I’m curious what Christians would say if she’d chosen a form of idolatry that didn’t make the news.

  1. Brother Steve,

I thought of you when watching some of these 2 min. videos produced by Molotov Mitchell, as I think you’ll agree with many of his viewpoints …he has one regarding public education as well.

I am SO thankful we now have our kids in a Christian school…if it weren’t for that, I’d be homeschooling ~ and even THAT may be coming under attack if America endorses the UN treaty on Rights of the Child. There’s already a war against home schoolers in Germany …more recently Sweden.

    God Bless!
