Green suffering for lack of green

Wind industry in doldrums

The wind industry is suffering a downturn as investors pull back from it.  Progress Energy news quoted Liz Salerno of the American Wind Energy Association as saying, “lack of a federal renewable requirement mean[s] uncertainty for the industry.”

That’s putting it politely.  Wind power is overpriced and unreliable.  The only market for it is one artificially created by state coercion.  With the fate of Waxman-Markey doubtful, windvestors can’t be sure they’ll have a market because no rational consumer would buy their product of his own free will.  It’d be like volunteering to pay $6.00 per gallon for gasoline that came with a government authorization to feel good about yourself.

Wishin’ in Michigan

The state of Michigan is much to be pitied.  Not only is the auto industry stalled after years of poor quality and labor union give-aways, but now their politicians are sailing the state into green water.  Michigan House Speaker Pro Tempore Pam Byrnes (Democrat, what else?) said, “We have idled manufacturing plants just waiting for the renewable energy industry to come to Michigan. There is no time to waste here. We can’t allow the renewable energy jobs to go to other states.”

Note to Pam: The reason the Big Three car makers went bust is because they made products nobody wanted.  Now you want to convert this failure into another one of the same kind, manufacturing green gadgets which nobody wants.  Ideologically driven economics is predestined to fail.  If the voters of Michigan can’t rid themselves of people like Ms. Byrnes, they can look forward to many more years of decline and depression-era levels of unemployment.

The latest unemployment figures from North Dakota where they’re exploiting new oil fields: 4.2 percent.  In Wyoming where coal is huge, 5.9 percent.  The figure in Michigan is 15.2 percent.

You say to yourself that there’s just no way the Democrats can be this stupid.  And then they are.  The biggest problem for the rest of the country is that people who share Ms. Byrnes’ beliefs are running the whole country, and their policies threaten to convert America into a big version of Michigan’s state-operated failure.  I wonder if Michigan has a Politburo.
