Flying

Is TSA profiling old white women?

I had to take an airline to Alabama a couple of days ago.  Just like all the sardonic jokes you hear, an old white woman in the line in front of me got pulled aside by TSA and subjected a pat-down search.  If there are data available on who gets more aggressively searched by TSA, I’d like to see it.  The last few times I’ve flown, I’ve gotten the eerie impression they’re picking out old white women.

Ironically, if there were ever a case to be made for profiling, this would be it.  In all the history of the entire planet, is there any record of a major act of terrorism being perpetrated by an old white woman?

Why not reverse-profile them and give them a pass?  Instead, TSA appears to target them because they generally don’t protest.  That’s just my opinion.  I could be mistaken.

CNN

I had a long delay in Huntsville, Alabama.  While sitting in the terminal learning to do Sudoku puzzles, I had a chance to see a good bit of CNN’s political coverage.  It’s no exaggeration to say it’s wall-to-wall Obama, all Obama all the time, nuttin’ but Obama, and Obama for freaken’ forever.  Camera angles, to my untrained eye, seemed to capture that countenance so gloriously upturned a bit more often than would be expected by chance.

The news media have lost their heads in the sheer emotional rush of this love affair.  The oxytocin must be squirting out by the quart.  In my fifty years of walking this sore travail, I’ve never seen anything to rival the passionate gushes of puppy love streaming in great cataracts from the media to a president.  I haven’t seen people overcome by such reckless and uncritical affection since teen-age girls used to scream all the way through Elvis Presley’s’ Heartbreak Hotel.
